Location: Basingstoke, UK (with occasional travel to London)

Salary: £55k - £60k + 10% DV Bonus

Clearance: Eligible for DV Clearance

About the Opportunity:

Join a leading global IT services provider renowned for managing complex and secure systems for high-profile clients. We are seeking a skilled and motivated 4th Line Infrastructure Support Engineer to become a key member of their advanced support function.

This is an excellent opportunity to deepen your technical expertise, working alongside dedicated 3rd Line and Engineering teams to resolve complex incidents and ensure the stability of critical infrastructure supporting a significant user community. You will receive specific training on established systems to get you up to speed quickly.

Security Clearance:

Due to the nature of the end client you will need to be eligible (or currently hold) DV Clearance.

The Role:

As a 4th Line Infrastructure Support Engineer, you will act as a senior escalation point, tackling complex technical issues primarily within Windows Server, Virtualisation (VMware/Hyper-V), and Citrix environments. You will work closely with engineering teams on underlying problems and provide expert support via the incident management system.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide expert-level (4th Line) technical support for complex infrastructure incidents.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues across Microsoft Windows Server environments (Apply online only)), Active Directory, and related core services (DNS, DHCP, PKI).
Support and manage virtualisation platforms (VMware vSphere suite, Hyper-V).
Administer and troubleshoot Citrix environments (PVS/MCS, StoreFront, App-V).
Manage and maintain security components including Firewalls, SMTP Proxies, and security policy enforcement.
Utilise PowerShell scripting for automation and administrative tasks.
Collaborate effectively with 3rd Line support, Engineering teams, and potentially end-users on complex issues.
Contribute to the maintenance and improvement of highly available and resilient systems (Clustering, HA, DFS).
Support Microsoft Cloud services (Exchange Online, Storage).

Essential Skills & Experience:

Strong experience in supporting Microsoft Windows Server (Apply online only)).
In-depth knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, WINS, and DHCP.
Proven experience with virtualisation technologies: VMware (vCenter, ESXi, vMotion) and/or Hyper-V (VMM).
Experience supporting Citrix environments (PVS/MCS, StoreFront) and application virtualisation (App-V).
Solid understanding of high availability (HA), Clustering, and Storage Spaces (SOFS).
Experience with firewall management and network security concepts.
Knowledge of PKI services and SMTP relays/proxies.
Proficiency in PowerShell scripting.
Experience supporting Remote Desktop Services (RDS) / Terminal Services.
Familiarity with backup/recovery solutions and disk encryption (e.g., MBAM/BitLocker).
Understanding of role-based access control (RBAC) and security delegation.

Desirable Skills & Knowledge:

Relevant certifications (Microsoft, Citrix, VMware).
Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud).
Experience with blade server infrastructure (e.g., HP BladeSystem).
Familiarity with automation tools (e.g., HP SA, Ansible, Puppet) and monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios).
Knowledge of security policy enforcement tools (e.g., Symantec DCS).
Understanding of container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift).
Broader understanding of client/midrange OS, networking, and security principles.
Experience with Linux-based applications or infrastructure components.
