About the role:
We are seeking an experienced Technical Systems Engineer to join our busy ICT Department at South Wales Police! The successful candidate will report to an Enterprise Specialist and is responsible for providing 2nd line problem resolution for a range of technical functions. Your technical skills and experience will be used in support of the vital technology that helps keep South Wales safe.
The ICT Senior Technical Engineer sits within the Technical Delivery section of the department and will report directly to an Enterprise Specialist.
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To maintain efficient performance of South Wales Police's enterprise infrastructure through providing 2nd line technical support and IT administration.
  • Administration and configuration of technologies within a specific area of the systems team, which will include one of the following areas:
    • Citrix
    • Cloud
    • SAN
    • Virtualisation
    • Systems Operations
    • Servers
    • Networks
      About you:
  • Must have related qualification(s) in Information Technology or proven experience in relevant areas of Information Technology
  • Must have a proven experience of administration and troubleshooting within an IT enterprise systems infrastructure as well as knowledge of server operating systems - especially Microsoft Windows.
  • Experience of Active Directory Services, such as Group Policy, DNS, DFS
  • Our systems team covers a wide variety of technologies, so we ask you can demonstrate experience in administrating ONE (or more)of the following:
  • Enterprise Systems Monitoring and especially Microsoft Systems Centre Operations Manager or Azure Monitor
  • Storage Area Networks and especially NetApp
  • Cloud Computing and especially Microsoft Azure
  • HP Server hardware support
  • Virtualisation Technologies and especially VMware or Citrix
  • Enterprise Unified Communications and especially Microsoft Exchange, Exchange On-Line, Microsoft Teams
  • Device Management Systems and especially Microsoft Systems Centre Configuration Manager/Intune
  • Datacentre Management including Power Management, Air Conditioning, Security, Networking, Racking, etc.
  • Enterprise Security
  • You should also be able to demonstrate experience in configuring ONE (or more)of the following:
    Systems Management,
    Systems Datacentre;
    Systems Server;
    Systems Storage;
    Systems Virtualisation;
    Systems Internet-Extranet Perimeter and Gateways;
    Systems AD Enterprise Services;
    Systems Unified Communications;
    Systems Security
